Barbara Phillips is a veteran homeschool
mom who has been self-employed as a reading specialist tutoring
children of all ages, for the past 12 years. She holds a B.A. in education, holds a
California teaching credential, has taught in both public and private schools, and has
Montessori Certification from the American Montessori Society. She has two adult children
who attended public schools. With her husband Richard, she homeschooled her daughter
Rachel from 2nd grade through high school. Barbara is a homeschool advocate and
popular speaker at homeschool workshops and conferences.

Dana Mirsalis - Dana has been homeschooled
since birth. She passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) when she was
14, and has been attending Foothill College since then. She is double majoring in
Japanese and economics, and plans on transferring to a four-year university in fall of
2009. She also enjoys musical theatre, karate, writing, and running an online community.
- Will Skinner - Will is 17 years old, and has
homeschooled for 11 years. He currently attends community college and also takes classes
taught by parents from his homeschool support group. Will is a member of Tieni Duro Junior
Cycling, a bike racing team from Walnut Creek. He has been active in 4-H for 8 years and
served as club president. Will hopes to attend Brown University, and is considering a career
in law.
- Lindsey Wickstrum - Lindsey is 20 years old
and engaged in what her family calls "choice schooling" - a combination of home
study blended with classes in different learning environments. She passed the California
High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) at 14, and earned her AA degree from West Valley
Community College at 18. She is currently a senior at Brigham Young University in Utah
studying Political Science with an emphasis in Spanish. Lindsey enjoys competitive sports,
ballroom dancing, and traveling with her family. She wants to attend Law School and pursue
a career in Law.
All of the panelists have homeschooled in the all-inclusive,
non-sectarian homeschool community for many years, using a variety of methodologies.
